Thank you for expressing interest in the Department of Transportation. In order to be considered for this position, you must complete the following questions. Your responses to these questions are considered a civil service examination and will be used to determine your eligibility for this vacancy for for future openings.

For the following questions, please describe your training and experience.  These experiences may include part-time or full-time employment, internships, volunteer activities, or relevant academic course work.  In addition, include the breadth and scope of your experience.

Please limit your response to each question not to exceed the equivalent of two double-spaced typewritten pages. Pages in excess of the specified limit will not be evaluated. Incomplete application/examination materials will NOT be considered.

1. Describe your experience in formulating policies or programs, or planning processes that direct a major portion of the resources of a business operation and have significant impact to the operations of the business. Please provide a very brief description of your job in the organization particularly emphasizing the development of a comprehensive plan.

2. Describe your experience in overseeing urban planning studies or processes related to transportation. Describe your role managing the studies and the methodology and processes used in conducting the studies. Include the complexities of the studies and the groups involved or affected by the studies. Pay special attention to describing a comprehensive plan, facilitating and developing a neighborhood or downtown economic development plan, or other comparable study or process.

Describe your experience in managing a staff --developing short and long-range workforce planning activities, conducting performance reviews, hiring, training, etc. Be sure to describe the type of staff such as professional, blue collar, other supervisors, etc. that you supervised.

Describe your experience in working with community business leaders, government bodies and those associated processes to achieve organizational goals and objectives – or to respond to issues raised by the business community, elected officials, or the general public. In your response, be sure to describe the nature and impact of the issues you worked on with the business community, governmental body (such as city council, county board, state legislature, federal agency, state agency), the general public, or business council.
