The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) is currently recruiting for multiple limited-term employment (LTE) Custodian positions to clean and sanitize assigned building areas on the Union Grove campus. WVHUG is a skilled nursing, long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. The Home is located a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha and other key locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

LTE jobs are limited to 1039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include benefits.

The Custodian does manual semi-skilled work in a variety of tasks such as dusting, wet washing and mopping, operating power custodial equipment, sweeping, waxing, vacuuming, emptying trash, refilling paper supplies, etc., in patient and non-patient areas. Work is performed under the guidance of a Custodian Lead or under the supervision of a Custodial Services Supervisor.
Duties involve working in the conditions of the job (e.g., climbing, reaching, bending; performing sustained physical activity; occasionally exerting an excess of 100 pounds of force; using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); working with loud, shaking and/or vibrating equipment; working on ladders and/or scaffolding, etc.).
The Custodian will work up to 20 hours a week. Work schedule can be flexible, and shifts are available Sunday through Saturday between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Per Wisconsin Statute 230.26, Wisconsin residency is required for LTE appointments.
Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct criminal background checks prior to a job offer.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) test.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without WDVA sponsorship) at the time of application.
Minimally-qualified applicants will have experience:
- Cleaning; and
- Using safety practices/controls; and
- Following instructions/standard operating procedures; and
- Working as a member of a team; and
- Communicating verbally and in writing
