Salary:
Starting salary is $15.06/hour, plus an add-on of $1.20/hour added to the base pay of employees in this position with a current and up-to-date WI Nurse Aide certification. Additional compensation for weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime, as well as an attractive benefits package. Half-time positions are not eligible for benefits. Position is in pay schedule-range 06-11. Pay on appointment for current employees will be set per WI Comp Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

The Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove (WVHUG) has multiple opportunities for part-time and full-time Certified Nursing Assistants. The Veterans Home is a 24/7/365 long-term-care facility dedicated to providing comfort, support, and professional nursing services to elderly or disabled Wisconsin veterans and their spouses. Our facility is located a short drive from Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha and other key locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Come join our team!

Sign-On Bonus of $2000 for eligible employees who agree to remain in the position for one year. $1000 will be paid on first paycheck and $1000 will be paid when employee attains permanent status.

Position Summary:   

Would you like to make a positive impact in the lives of Wisconsin veterans?

CNAs at our Home provide direct and indirect nursing care, in accordance with standards set by the American Nurses Association; gerontological nursing practice; federal, state and Veterans Administration regulations; and the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of WVHUG and WDVA. Responsibilities include providing nursing care that follows a written care plan to help meet the therapeutic, preventative, restorative, spiritual, psychosocial, cognitive, and rehabilitative needs of WVHUG members. This includes cognitive techniques to help maintain the demented member at the highest functional level. This position works as an integral part of the health care team, under the direction of licensed nursing staff, with limited supervision by a Nursing Supervisor.

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to an offer of employment.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) test.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without WDVA sponsorship) at the time of application.

Qualifications:   

Minimally-qualified applicants will be certified or eligible for certification as a Wisconsin Nurse Aide, will be eligible to work in a federally-certified nursing home as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and will be available to work varying hours and/or overtime shifts as required.

In addition to these requirements, qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Providing basic nursing care (e.g., assisting patients with activities of daily living; following treatment goals; assisting food intake; assisting with ambulation; obtaining vitals and specimen for lab analysis; observing and reporting patient condition; assisting licensed staff, etc.); and
  • Using computer applications (e.g., email, word processing, reporting, electronic medical records, etc.)
  • With professional communication (e.g., working relationships; information exchange; teamwork; mentoring; etc.); and
  • Using infection control practices (e.g., hand washing; wearing gloves; sanitizing services; etc.)

Well-qualified applicants will also have experience:

  • Maintaining equipment and inventory; and/or
  • Performing safety and security duties; and/or
  • Working as a CNA in a relevant setting
