The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC) is recruiting to fill a Barber/Cosmetologist position.
WRC is a secure treatment facility that specializes in treating individuals with severe mental health conditions from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. This facility is located on Lake Winnebago with beautiful walking paths by the lake for employees to use during break periods.

Work hours are 7:45am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

This position provides barbering/beauty services for male and female inmates at WRC and Wisconsin Women's Resource Center (WWRC). Services include trimming moustaches and beards, and providing haircuts. Hair is cut in the style preferred by the male or female inmate that is feasible and consistent with maintaining good grooming, neat appearance, and in accordance with other facility standards.
All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow the DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Applicants with a conviction record will be asked to discuss this record.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of hire.
Due to the nature of this position applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
- Licensed as a Barber or Cosmetologist in the State of Wisconsin
- Experience with female and male barbering techniques and hairstyles (i.e., haircuts, beard and mustache trimming, etc.)
- Experience maintaining proper sanitary workstation/barbershop
- Experience utilizing computer programs (i.e., emails, creating documents, scheduling, etc.)
- Experience working independently and with flexibility
- Excelling prioritization skills
Well qualified applicants will have:
- Experience and/or training with mentally ill or developmentally disabled male and female adults
- Experience working with inmates
