The Department of Natural Resources is hiring 3 LTE - Laborers in our Blue Mound State Park location at 4350 Mounds Park Road in Blue Mounds, WI.

Position Summary:   

LTE - Laborer

These positions are responsible or the maintenance of park facilities and grounds. This involves working outdoors and includes the inspection, cleaning, and grounds-keeping of buildings, facilities, campgrounds, day use, and picnic areas. Laborers often operate machinery including UTVs, chainsaws, hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors, and other motorized vehicles. Weekends and holidays are required. This position runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

50% - Clean restrooms, pool and day use areas, campsites and fire rings, picnic grills. Mow and string trim grounds. Pick up litter. Remove trees and brush.

30% - Perform general maintenance duties. Develop and maintain trail surfaces. Install signs, paint grills and picnic tables, and other park facilities.

10% - Perform light carpentry, plumbing, electrical, small engine maintenance, and other duties assigned.

10% - Be a good ambassador for the park by providing general information on the property and recreational activities to visitors. Answer question and disseminate information.

Special Notes:   

This is a limited term (LTE) position.  Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.  LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin. Non-residents may apply, but must meet residency requirements upon hire.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check.  DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications:   

Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge, skills and experience of general and preventative maintenance operations
- Experience maintaining or repairing buildings and facilities
- Must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver's license and have at least 2 years of driving experience
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
- Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Must be willing and able to work outside and in inclement weather conditions
- Experience using hand and power tools including chainsaws
- Experience operating equipment and vehicles including: 4-wheel drive, tractors, dump trucks, and trailers

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in landscaping or other maintenance work in an outdoor setting
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public
