The Department of Natural Resources is hiring an LTE - Parks and Recreation Specialist in our Peninsula State Park location at 9462 Shore Road in Fish Creek, WI!

Position Summary:   

LTE - Parks and Recreation Specialist

This position is responsible for a combination of outdoor maintenance and grounds keeping work in addition to providing customer service for property visitors and campers at the entrance station. Parks and Recreation Specialists often operate machinery such as UTV's, ATV's, chainsaws, snowmobiles, hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors and other motorized vehicles. The position will start approximately May 1 and go through mid-October. There are pay differentials: an additional $0.45 per hour for evening work after 6:00PM and $0.60 per hour for Saturday and Sunday work. The position will be paid at time and one half for holiday work. Housing is available on property for those who are interested. 

40% - Direct other team members and assist in the collection of fees and dissemination of information. Work at entrance stations, campgrounds or other visitor contact stations. Use electronic cash registers, electronic credit card verification equipment and computerized reservation and reporting systems. Register campers; sell admission stickers to public. Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park area, as well as explain the area's recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and campground availability. Manage the administration of admission sticker sales and other fee charges to efficiently maximize revenues.

40% - Maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards to include mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches, painting, maintaining restrooms and campsites, remove trees and brush, repair and maintain trail surfaces, operate vehicles and light equipment and perform repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings.

15% - Explain State Park rules, regulations and fees to visitors and help with special events. Manage the Park and its facilities to protect public health and safety.

5% - Assist the Park Manager and/or Property Superintendent with monitoring the work and performance of other team members or volunteers and any other duties as assigned.

Special Notes:   

This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin. Non-residents may apply, but must meet residency requirements upon hire.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check.  DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

- Ability to be productive working alone as well as working with a team.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience handling cash and operating cash registers
- Experience with rule enforcement.
- Experience leading and directing the work of others.
- Knowledge and skills in buildings and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Must be 18 years old to operate vehicles and some equipment
- Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and work in a fast paced environment
