The Department of Natural Resources is hiring an LTE - Parks and Recreation Specialist in our Big Bay State Park location at 2402 Hagen Road in La Pointe, WI.

Position Summary:   

LTE - Parks and Recreation Specialist 

If you have a positive outlook and are looking for a fun working environment with flexible shift times, the DNR is looking for a Parks and Recreation Specialist to join our team at Big Bay State Park! This position reports to the team lead and/or the Property Superintendent and is responsible for performing the maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards.

Located on Madeline Island, Big Bay State Park has a 1.5-mile beach, a family campground and outdoor group camp, picnic areas, a 1.3-mile boardwalk, and more than seven miles of hiking and nature trails with incredible views of Lake Superior. Come and enjoy working at the Island at Big Bay State Park!

Housing with panoramic views of Lake Superior is available for employees.

80% - Perform maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards to include mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches, painting, maintaining restrooms and campsites, remove trees and brush, repair and maintain trail surfaces, operate vehicles and light equipment and perform repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings.

10% - Explain State Park rules, regulations and fees to visitors and help with special events. Manage the Park and its facilities to protect public health and safety.

10% - Perform minor plumbing and electrical duties

Special Notes:   

This is a limited term (LTE) position.  Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.  LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check.  DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge, skills and experience of general maintenance operations
- Building/facility or repair maintenance experience
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
- Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public
