The Department of Health Services (DHS); Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) in Madison, WI is currently recruiting for a Laborer.
MMHI is conveniently located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program. MMHI is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system. Our overall service delivery goal is to provide specialized services in treatment, research, training and consultation.

This position will typically work Monday-Friday with daytime hours, but may be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
The Laborer is responsible for general labor type duties, such as distribution of laundry, including sorting, filling orders and maintaining inventory. Additionally, general custodial duties, delivery tasks, moving furniture and appliances, and grounds-related activities will be required.
Due to the nature of this position, all applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.
This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 75 pounds, bending, stooping, twisting, crawling, and working on the applicant's feet for long periods of time. Applicants will be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by Mendota Mental Health Institute or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
Minimum qualifications include:
- Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and able to accept work assignment changes as needed.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driverís license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy ** to drive a state vehicle.
Well qualified candidates will have:
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and using problem solving processes.
**State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Minimum of two year's driving experience.
- Must be 18 years of age of older.
Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:
- Three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past two years.
- An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months.
- A suspension or revocation of the driver's license.
