The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) is currently recruiting for multiple Facilities Maintenance Specialist-Advanced positions. Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK). The Veterans Home is a skilled-nursing and assisted-living, long-term-care facility dedicated to providing services to Wisconsin Veterans and their families. The facility is set on 320 tree-lined acres located off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary:   

Under general supervision, this position installs, repairs, replaces, and maintains electrical-mechanical systems/equipment. The systems/equipment include food service, laundry, medical, communications, nurse call, lighting, power, heating, ventilating, air-conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration components, in or on buildings or structures of the WVHK campus. All tasks are performed in accordance with regulatory guidelines, administrative codes, pertinent plans and specifications or job orders, commensurate with training, acquired knowledge and learned/certified abilities.

Special Notes:   

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a background check prior to an offer of employment.

Position requires a valid driverís license.

Qualifications:   

Knowledge of:

  • preventive maintenance, refrigeration, chill-water and other building mechanical systems
  • principles, methods and practices for using power tools and heavy equipment
  • procedures and practices required for Lockout/Tag out, Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, Hazard Communication, and Spill Prevention
  • safety techniques, tools, and materials used in the electrical and mechanical trades
  • Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet requirements

Ability to:

  • employ proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) commensurate with assigned duties
  • repair, troubleshoot, and install mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and related system components
  • use test equipment to determine the safety and functionality of tested unit
  • perform move, remove, and install objects, occasionally exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force
  • climb and work on ladders and/or scaffolding
  • work with loud, shaking and/or vibrating equipment
  • observe and react to hazards and changing conditions in the environment
  • follow policies and practices regarding safety
  • work independently and as a member of a team
