Starting annual salary is between $80,000 - $91,124. This position is in pay schedule and range 71-01, plus up to $2.75 per hour add-on depending on qualifications. A twelve month probationary period is required upon appointment to this position. Pay for current state employees will be set based on the rules of the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

Join our team as an Attorney Supervisor with the Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Who We Are:  The mission of the Department of Safety and Professional Services(DSPS) is to promote economic growth and stability while protecting the citizens of Wisconsin as designated by statute. DSPS and related professional boards protect the citizens of Wisconsin and ensure safe and competent practice, the Division of Legal Services and Compliance (DLSC) processes, investigates, and prosecutes complaints against licensed professionals, as well as monitors compliance with disciplinary orders. DLSC cases involve health, business, and trade professionals. DLSC also provides legal counsel to the professional boards attached to DSPS.

Where We Are Located: This position is located on the west side of Madison in the brand new Hill Farms State Office Building, at 4822 Madison Yards Way, conveniently located close to the restaurants, shopping, and entertainment of the Hilldale Shopping Center. Our complex also offers great views and a new exercise facility for employee use.

Position Summary:   

  • Manage and supervise attorneys, paralegals and investigators

  • Oversee, manage and direct complex cases acting as lead attorney when necessary

  • Establish performance goals for staff

  • Provide advice and representation on legal and policy issues

  • Develop and revise DLSC policies and procedures

**A license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin is required at the point of application**

In addition to the license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin, a minimally qualified candidate will have:

  • Experience working in a variety (2 or more) of different legal areas (e.g. personal injury, probate, criminal, etc.)

  • Litigation experience in a court or prosecuting contested matters in an administrative forum

    • In addition to all of the above, a well qualified candidate will have:
    • Experience working in a supervisory or lead role 

    • Experience providing legal counsel to executive management
