The starting base pay is $17.58 per hour (approx. $36,566 annually) plus excellent benefits. Pay for current state employees will be set based on the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. A 12-month probationary period is required. The pay schedule-range is 03-13.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is recruiting to fill a Facilities Maintenance Specialist Advanced.

WMHI is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults. The facility has a beautiful campus located on Lake Winnebago with adjacent walking paths by the lake for employees to use during break periods. There are additional benefits for employees of the facility including a gym and fitness center, several wellness initiatives, a casual dress code, and other program events.

Benefits include 3.5 weeks of paid time off, 9 paid holidays, a top rated health plan, multiple low cost insurance options, and enrollment in the State of Wisconsin retirement plan. Low-cost insurance options starting at $32/month for single plans and $80/month for family plans after 2 months of state service.

This position works 10 hour shifts, 4 days per week (6:00 AM - 4:00 PM).  Schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday with some flexibility.  

Position Summary:   

This position performs general/preventative maintenance on (but not limited to) the following systems: heating, plumbing, electrical, and ventilation systems; washer and dryer repairs. In addition, this position will inspect, maintain, install, remove floors, roofs, ceilings, doors, windows, screens, furniture, parking lots, sidewalks, and various building hardware and equipment. This position submits monthly estimates of material needed to perform assigned tasks, keeps accurate logs, and submits written reports as required. This position works around patients/inmates and is responsible for the security of tools and keys.

Special Notes:   

All applicants will be required to allow the DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB screen, which will be administered prior to their start date.

Applicants must have the physical ability to lift up to 80 pounds.  A physical assessment may be required prior to hire.

Qualifications:   

Minimally qualified applicants will have:

  • Experience with building and maintenance and repairs (i.e., carpentry, carpet, drywall, painting, etc.)

  • Training and/or experience performing electrical repair (replacing switches, outlets, ballasts, motors, etc.) 

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy** to drive a state vehicle.

    • **State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy:
    • Must have a valid driver's license.

    • Minimum of two year's driving experience.

    • Must be 18 years of age of older.

      • Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions:
      • 3 or more moving violations (with point reductions) and/or at fault accidents in the past 2 years.

      • An OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months.

      • A suspension or revocation of the driver's license.

        • Well-qualified applicants will have:

        • Experience or training related to maintaining/ repairing plumbing facilities and HVAC equipment.

        • Experience working with commercial snow removal equipment.

        • Experience following safety practices and procedures.

        • Ability to set priorities and work as part of a team.
