Starting salary is $20.00 to $24.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications ($41, 600 to $49,920 annual salary), plus excellent benefits. This position is in pay schedule and range 07-04. A one year probationary period will be required.

Since its beginnings in 1855, the Wisconsin Historical Society Press has served the mission of the Wisconsin Historical Society to collect, preserve, and share the stories of the Midwest. The Sales Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining retail, library, education, and specialty sales markets for books published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press. The Sales Specialist creates sales plans and goals; tracks and reports sales results; manages sales relationships with authors, reps, libraries, bookstores, gift shops, Wisconsin Historical Society sites and affiliates, and other retailers; and maintains the Press’s online sales presence. This position reports with general supervision to the Press Director under the guidance of the Society Press Sales and Marketing Manager.
The core duties of this position include, but are not limited to: -Work with Press Sales and Marketing Manager and marketing team to build innovative sales and marketing campaigns to grow awareness and sales of the Press’s titles and brand, including researching and identifying new customers and sales opportunities; planning and delivering sales presentations to key contacts; and communicating plans and strategies to the Press team. -Develop and implement detailed sales plans for new and backlist titles, including planning and executing title-specific and series or category promotions; building contact lists; writing copy for sales materials and presentations; and planning follow-up actions. -Manage sales relationships through regular communication with authors, commissioned reps, bookstores, libraries, gift shops, Wisconsin Historical Society sites and affiliates, and other retailers; act as point of contact for internal and external sales stakeholders. a. Proactively communicate throughout the year with sales reps and buyers, including regular in-person, phone, and virtual meetings. b. Represent the Press at twice-yearly trade sales conferences. c. Respond to potential and existing customer’s sales inquiries. -Manage, upload, and update the Press’s sales and marketing data to Society’s Online Store, Edelweiss catalog system, and other sales and marketing platforms. -Ensure accurate and timely updates of sales and marketing data (e.g., copy, reviews, blurbs, awards) in Press database, in Title Management systems, and to all stakeholders, including Society staff and affiliates, reps, and other book industry contacts. -Oversee Press’s catalogs, including planning title selection and organization, developing copy, verifying accuracy of title specifications, and managing mailing and distribution, working in collaboration with in-house staff and external vendors.
Minimally qualified candidate will have experience in all of the following:
• Professional experience in a sales role at a trade publisher of any size. • Professional experience monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on book sales efforts. • Professional experience presenting seasonal publishing lists to book buyers and sales reps. • Professional experience using Edelweiss or similar online book sales and marketing platform.
In addition to minimum qualifications, a well-qualified candidate will additionally have experience in at least one of the following areas:
• Professional experience in a sales role at an academic or institutional publisher of any size. • Professional experience in educational or children’s product sales or marketing. • Professional experience using Counterpoint or other point-of-sale software.
