Salary:
Cadet Specialist positions start at $15.447 per hour (pay schedule/range 12-04). These positions are included in a pay progression structure that includes a pay increase per the WSEU contract. Cadet Specialist - Lead positions start at $18.069 per hour (pay schedule/range 12-06). A six-month probationary period is required.
Special Qualifications:
Applicants must possess or have the ability to possess a valid driver's license upon appointment. They must also attend and complete a Crisis Prevention Training Course, if appointed. Lead positions require possession of a commercial driver's license (CDL) with “P” endorsement, within six months of employment.

If you would like to make a difference in the lives of troubled young adults, then this may be the job for you!  These positions are with the Department of Military Affairs (DMA), Wisconsin National Guard Challenge Academy (WINGCA), located at Fort McCoy.   The employment eligibility registers created from this recruitment will be used to staff vacancies which may occur at the WINGCA during the next six months or beyond.

Job Duties:   

The WINGCA is a voluntary character development and educational program for 16 - 18 year old high school dropouts in a strict, military environment.  The Challenge Academy is a residential program/facility.  Cadet Specialists will provide for the safety, security, and accountability for "At-risk" youth (cadets); responsible for providing cadets with guidance in the areas of personal hygiene, clothing care, housekeeping and social amenities; positions enforce WINGCA policies, rules and regulations and submit verbal and written reports.  Positions assign specific tasks designed to provide cadets with information and skills necessary to successfully achieve their goals; review with cadets their progress and other goals; provide small group service to cadets, as well as one on one “footlocker counselling”; consult with other team members to make recommendations to management regarding cadet issues; and confront, discipline and counsel cadets as needed.  Cadet Specialist Lead workers will be responsible for directing the work and activities of a team of Cadet Specialists to assure the experiential/recreational programs, community service programs, and off-site work projects in communities and military facilities are completed in accordance with WINGCA policies and procedures. 

Special Notes:   A criminal background check will be conducted as part of the hiring process.  These positions may require a flex work schedule that includes, days, evenings, weekends, and holiday hours.     

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Safety and security standards; methods of instruction, supervision, counseling and training in a military, educational and correctional setting; ability to use, maintain and repair equipment utilized in outdoor adventure and recreational activities; first aid and lifesaving; effective oral and written communication skills.
