Salary:
F/CRS 2 positions start at $14.214 per hour (05-11), and F/CRS 3 positions start at $15.374 per hour (05-12). Positions at all levels may receive skill based add-on pay adjustments. A six-month probationary period is required. These positions have Protective Occupational Status; an accelerated retirement benefit of the Wisconsin Retirement System.

The employment register established from this recruitment will be used to staff future vacancies at the Fire/Crash Rescue Specialist (F/CRS) 2 and 3 levels at the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) at: the Air National Guard Base, Truax Field, Madison; the Air National Guard Base, Mitchell Field, Milwaukee; or the Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC), Volk Field, Camp Douglas.  If you are qualified for the F/CRS 3 level, according to the requirements set forth below, please consider applying for the F/CRS 2 level as well, by indicating both job announcement codes on the state application.

Job Duties:   

These are State of Wisconsin, civil service positions, funded by the military, and involve working in and around a military environment. Positions at Truax and Mitchell Air National Guard also have responsibilities for local commercial airports. F/CRS positions prevent, control and extinguish all types of structural, aircraft, missile, separate or component weapons, vehicle, ground, and other miscellaneous fires or potential fires; perform related rescue, first aid and property preservation; operate and maintain all types of fire fighting and related rescue vehicles, equipment systems, devices and apparatuses; perform fire prevention inspections; operate emergency communication systems; and perform administrative duties. The F/CRS 3 level positions are designated lead workers with advanced knowledge and qualifications, responsible for leading and coordinating the work of other F/CRS positions on specific shifts.

Special Notes:   

Applicants must be at least 18-years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent; must have a valid driver's license upon appointment and must qualify for a military driver's license identifying assigned fire fighting vehicles. Must meet the minimum physical standards as established by the National Fire Protection Association for Airport Fire Fighters. Successful candidates who are new to the Department will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, a drug test, and a physical agility test and employees must maintain fitness levels as a condition of employment. A criminal background check will be conducted on successful candidates and a Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance must be acquired following appointment. Must possess the required Fire Protection Program certifications in accordance with NGR 5-1/ANGI 63-101, as seen below in the Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities section. Certifications must be valid at the time of application; testing or applying for certifications does not meet position eligibility requirements.

     

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

The following certifications are the minimum eligibility requirements for the respective F/CRS levels.  Certifications must be from the DOD, or IFSAC or Pro Board accredited.  Non-DOD certifications must have an IFSAC or Pro Board seal of authenticity.

F/CRS 2 Minimum Requirements: State of Wisconsin or National Registry EMT certification and DOD or IFSAC or Pro Board accredited Fire Fighter 1, Fire Fighter 2, Airport Fire Fighter, Hazmat Awareness, and Hazmat Operations. 

F/CRS 3 Minimum Requirements: All certifications as shown for the F/CRS 2 level and DOD or IFSAC or Pro Board accredited Fire Officer 1, Fire Instructor 1, and HazMat Incident Command.

Applicants that do not possess, or fail to submit, the above minimum certifications will be deemed ineligible and will not be given further consideration.
