Salary:
The starting salary is between $21.594 and $35.631 per hour depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is an 07/03. A 6-month probationary period will be required. This position is represented by the Fiscal and Staff Services bargaining unit.

This position is located in the Department of Health Services (DHS); Division of Long Term Care (DLTC); Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) in Madison.

Job Duties:   This position will facilitate communication through interpretation between signing and non-singing individuals and employees who are Deaf, Deaf-blind, or hard of hearing.  The position will provide technical assistance on the needs of individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-blind, or hard of hearing.  The position will also assist customers with communications and problem solving; participation in interpreter training; provide consultation on communication and interpretation policy; assist in the arrangement of interpreters; developing and presenting training programs; and work to enhance the communication and teamwork throughout DHS.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Knowledge of the Interpreter Code of Ethics; Deaf Community, Deaf Services, Deaf Culture, and communication services and technologies; interpreter services and agencies and qualifications pertaining to state and national certifications; and basic computer knowledge.  Ability to analyze problems in communications services and technologies; communicate with a variety of Deaf, Deaf-blind, or hard of hearing persons; interpret in a variety of settings and situations; work cooperatively and as part of a team; recognize, identify, and comprehend a variety of communications modes and styles; effectively communicate orally and in writing.
