Salary:
The starting salary is $19.054 per hour for the 2 level, $20.624 per hour for the 3 level, and $22.321 per hour for the 4 level, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/ranges are 06-15 (2 level), 06-16 (3 level), and 06-17 (4 level). A six-month probationary period is required. This classification is included in the Technical bargaining unit.

Licensure or eligibility for licensure to practice Respiratory Care in the State of Wisconsin or proof of enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.

The Department of Health Services (DHS); Division of Long Term Care (DLTC); Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) for the Developmentally Disabled in Madison.  NOTE: This is a continuous recruitment.  A vacancy may or may not be available at the time of your application. This announcement will be used to fill both full-time and part-time positions.  Information about CWC can be found at: http://dhs.wisconsin.gov/cwc.

Job Duties:   This position provides direct Respiratory Therapy (RT) services to Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) residents who are developmentally disabled or have experienced traumatic brain injuries.  This position provides the full array of respiratory therapy services to residents (of all ages) with various diagnoses and types of disabilities.  This position requires demonstration of specialized skills in Pediatrics and with residents who have severe developmental disabilities.  This position also participates on interdisciplinary teams providing extensive teaching resources to respiratory students, nursing, new CWC employees and community caregivers and parents.

Special Notes:   Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a security check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   All positions – Considerable knowledge of RT evaluation and treatment approaches. Ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing; function under general supervision; work from a standing, sitting, kneeling or stooping position; and set priorities.

Respiratory Therapist 3 and 4 – Expert Knowledge of RT evaluation and treatment approaches; care of special respiratory equipment and infection control; and computer software. Ability to work as part of a team; write professional reports in English; work cooperatively with others and use a problem-solving process; demonstrate good body mechanics; and operate vibrating machines such as Flimm Fighter.

Respiratory Therapist 4 – Knowledge of specialized RT procedures such as sleep studies, changing and monitoring tracheostomy tubes, etc.; emergency procedures; setting realistic and relevant resident goals; surgical procedures such as tracheotomies, tracheal esophageal diversion, etc.; adult teaching techniques; infection control procedures; and CPR procedures.
