Full Time (40 hrs/week)
Salary:
Starting salary is $18.431 per hour (Social Worker level) and $21.568 per hour (Social Worker – Advanced level). A twelve-month probationary period will be required. Social Worker is in pay schedule/range 12-06 and Social Worker – Advanced is in pay schedule/range 12-08. These positions are represented by the Professional Social Services bargaining unit.
Special Qualifications:
Applicants MUST possess permanent or temporary Wisconsin Social Worker Certification. Applicants with an out of state license will be considered if they have passed the ASWB exam AND have completed a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Social Work. Whether you are a newly licensed social worker or an experienced social worker, make your social worker license count.  Come to the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare and make a difference in the life of a child.  The Department of Children and Families has social worker vacancies in the Division of Safety and Permanence/Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare (BMCW) in Milwaukee. The mission of the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare is to lead the nation in fostering healthy, self-reliant individuals focusing on strengthening families, promoting community responsibility and protecting those who are vulnerable. Job Duties:   This position will conduct child protective services intakes and assessments of alleged child abuse and neglect referrals including interviewing family members and conducting home visits; implementing appropriate intervention strategies; preparing written and oral testimony for Children’s Court appearances; and maintaining current documentation on caseload.

Special Notes:   

  • Due to the nature of these positions, a criminal background check will be conducted as part of the hiring process.

  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver's license and ability to meet minimum fleet standards will be required upon appointment.

  • Applicants hired with a temporary Social Work certificate must obtain permanent licensure by the end of the one year probationary period.

  • Successful candidates must have the ability to lift small children.

  • To qualify for the Advanced level you must possess a Masters of Social Work degree, Advanced Practice SW license or answer the third question on the exam (which will be evaluated for appropriate level of experience).
  • Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

    Social work principles and practices; child and family development, family systems theory, crisis intervention theory, dynamics of child abuse and neglect; community human services and health resources; effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; proficient computer skills and use of automated case management information system to maintain accurate, current case record documentation and to prepare clear, concise reports.
