Salary:
The starting salary is between $45,088 and $58,464 per year depending upon qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 15/03. A 6-month probationary is required. This position is included in the Wisconsin Science Professional bargaining unit.
Special Qualifications:
A Wisconsin Registered Sanitarian license, or National Registered Environmental Health Specialist (R.E.H.S) certification, or documentation of eligibility to be certified.

The Department of Health Services (DHS); Division of Public Health (DPH).  We currently have one vacancy in Madison and one in Milwaukee.

Job Duties:   This position conducts surveys of food service, lodging, vending, swimming, camping, recreational-educational camp, tattoo and body piercing facilities using applicable health and safety statutes and administrative codes.  In addition, this position will be responsible for improving the public health and safety of patrons utilizing these facilities as well as members of the public that are indirectly exposed to environmental conditions resulting from the operation of these facilities.  The position provides environmental and public health consultation and training services to operators of these facilities, potential operators, agents, local and state officials, attorneys, architects, engineers, organizations and the general public; represents the state at the local level; participates in the improvement of the quality of service to the public; acts as a liaison between public contacts and state agencies; coordinates and conducts epidemiological investigations of reported suspected food, air and waterborne outbreaks; makes recommendations for the revision of administrative codes and policies; and participates in the development of regional and statewide meetings.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Knowledge of the principles of oral, computer, and written communication skills; principles of inspection, enforcement, and public relations; epidemiological techniques relative to sampling, interviewing, and evaluating occurrences of suspected food, water, and airborne disease outbreaks, biological and chemical sciences relative to cause and effect relationships; vector control techniques and principles; communicable disease control techniques; water supply and waste disposal construction and installation principles consistent with environmental and public health principles; environmental health hazard investigation, sampling and abatement pertaining to lead, asbestos, radon, indoor air, solid waste, wastewater, drinking water, pest control, injury prevention, electromagnetic waves, etc.; environmental health statutes, codes, and standards; and computer programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, GroupWise, etc.
