This position is designated as a Career Executive position and is assigned pay range 81-02. The starting salary, depending upon qualifications, ranges from $52,737 - $87,018. A two year trial probationary period may be required. A one time relocation incentive award is available to qualified current state employees.

The Department of Transportation currently has an exciting opportunity for someone to join the Northeast Region Management Team (Green Bay Office). As a member of the Region Management Team, you will be responsible for administrative and managerial functions in the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex program, policy, budgetary, and organizational components of the Department's transportation programs. This position has the responsibility to manage the Region's Systems Planning & Operations Section with an emphasis in managing transportation facility planning, improvement program investment management, maintenance, and traffic operations. 

The current vacancy is located in Green Bay.  The register created by this exam may be used to fill  related vacancies within the Regions as well as the Statewide Bureaus as they occur in Madison (Dane County), Milwaukee (Milwaukee County), Waukesha (Waukesha County), Green Bay (Brown County), Wisconsin Rapids (Wood County), La Crosse (LaCrosse County), Eau Claire (Eau Claire County), Rhinelander (Oneida County) and Superior (Douglas County).

Job Duties:   

Key responsibilities include but aren't limited to:

  • Preparation of annual and long-range maintenance and traffic programs and budgets.

  • Directing programs associated with permitting access, transmission lines, right-of-way issues, outdoor advertising.

  • Consulting with internal and external parties with the responsibility to develop and implement planning and related modal activities.

  • Developing the Region's Six-Year Improvement Program with other regional personnel.

  • Overseeing the negotiation of project agreements with local units of government and agencies.

  • Establishing program objectives, management procedures, and performance standards.

  • Managing a staff to include supervisors, team leaders, professional, technical, and support staff.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with public officials, agency personnel, community groups, business leaders, and the public.

  • Participating in division and regional policy setting as a member of the regional management team.

  • Developing, managing, and implementing biennial, annual, and operating budgets.

  • Extensive knowledge of budgetary methods and processes to include knowledge of financial analyses

  • Extensive oral and written communication skills.

  • Extensive knowledge of problem solving techniques.

  • Negotiation skills.

  • Extensive knowledge of urban planning principles, practices, and methodologies in their practical applications to transportation.
