Starting salary is $61,057 per year, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current State employees may vary according to provisions of the Compensation Plan and WI Administrative Code as well as DOC policy on compensation. This classification is assigned to the Broadband Pay Schedule 81-03. This is a non-represented position. A 12-month probationary period is required.

This challenging Insititution Social Services Director position in the WI Department of Corrections, is located at Fox Lake Correctional Institution (FLCI), Fox Lake, WI (Dodge County #14)

The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society.

Job Duties:   

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Warden, this position serves as Director of the Social Service Department at the Fox Lake Correctional Institution. This position plans, coordinates, and administers Social Services programs and processes; collaborates with staff in other disciplines to develop and improve treatment programming and to implement programming that will assist offenders in successful re-entry to their communities; coordinates planning with the Division of Community Corrections, other Institutions, community based organizations and outside agencies related to Social Services delivery.  As part of the institution management team, works with the Deputy Warden to develop, implement and monitor the institution's goals, policies and procedures as well as DOC rules and regulations, and specific administrative rules, policies and procedures related to Social Services; participates in development of the institution budget. Responsibilities include direct supervision of Social Workers in the performance of offender casework, counseling, and treatment services.

WELL QUALIFIED CANDIDATES will have a four year or advanced graduate degree with a major or equivalent in a Human Services field, such as Social Work, Counseling, or a related field (or equivalent experience/combination of education and experience).

Special Notes:   

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Knowledge of social work/treatment principles, methods and development; community and family social, economic, and health problems; cultural forces affecting human behavior;standards of care and service in Corrections; pertinent legislation and Administrative Rules;  management principles and practices; budget preparation; supervisory techniques and practices; labor contract administration; EEO/AA principles and practices; Wisconsin Social Worker certification standards and laws.  Ability to provide skilled treatment and supervision in accordance with casework principles. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
