Corrections, Department of IS Data Services Consultant/Administrator - Database AdministratorJob Announcement Code(s): 09-03279
This position provides leadership and advanced technical expertise to set direction for and manage the Bureau of Technology Management (BTM) shared distributed/non-distributed databases across multiple computer platforms including Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. It also provides expertise in the direction and management of the distributed/non-distributed DBMS environments. It is responsible for the development of the DBA program, setting standards, and providing leadership to less senior DBA’s and other BTM staff performing data base related work. Required skills include demonstrated ability to plan projects demonstrated ability to solve very complex problems independently, very good/excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated knowledge of application development methodology, demonstrated ability in distributed data base design analysis and implementation, distributed data base performance planning/evaluation, distributed data base process logic, and distributed programming consultation. Technical support responsibilities require application of leadership and expertise in multi-platform/multi-operating systems, the development program products used by BTM applications. This position has interaction with Federal and State agencies, and heavy interaction with DOC/BTM management and staff, customers, and vendors of data base management software and related products. This position will work with the peer DBA’s to develop common and consistent policy and procedures with mainframe and non-mainframe databases. The DOC Bureau of Technology Management provides support for multiple computer platforms including multi-processor mainframes, Oracle, IBM AIX UNIX, UnixWare, HP UNIX, and Windows NT. This position provides primary database support for Oracle and backup support for DB2, UDB, IMS, Microsoft SQL Server, and Access. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. No contracts. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
