Preview Exam  

This position is responsible for the preparation and operation of technical production equipment and software in the audio, video, and computer editing areas.  Technical maintenance responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining studio, remote and field equipment associated with the WHA television production facilities and transmitting plant. Schedule includes evenings and weekends.

Job Duties:   Videotape live television program segments and electronically edit them into completed programs. Duplicate and transfer existing segments and programs to other videotape formats. Set up and mix analog and digital audio for program productions. Set up and operate broadcast-quality color cameras, video production switchers, videotape machines, and other specialized support equipment for productions.  Additional tasks will include performing corrective and preventive maintenance on all of the various electronic systems and devices in use in the WHA-TV facilities along with the operation of videotape machines and camera control for television studio and remote productions.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Remote and studio television production systems; linear and nonlinear video and audio editing applications setup and use within the broadcast facilities; audio mixer, audio recorders, and other audio production equipment maintenance; broadcast color video camera, encoder, processor amplifier, and color corrector setup and operation; video switcher, frame synchronizer, aspect ratio conversion, and video monitor set up and operation; videotape standards and formats; PC and Mac computer operating systems; computer software installation process along with installation and interconnection of accessories and ancillary devices; FCC rules and regulations for television transmission; FCC rules and industry standards for video and audio signals preferred; basic digital television concepts including MPEG and MJPEG compression protocols; television broadcast transmitters, their function, alignment and troubleshooting techniques; video camera system troubleshooting techniques; ability to operate a professional audio mixing console and evaluate production audio; see fine detail on a video monitor; set-up and operate videotape machines; install new equipment assuring compatibility with existing devices; use metal fabrication techniques along with the ability to properly use workshop tools; apply electronics theory to the repair of electronic equipment utilized in television production and broadcast facilities; troubleshooting techniques and use of analog and digital test equipment; ability to possess and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or have the ability to obtain an unrestricted CDL within 60 days of hire, in order to drive the WHA-TV remote truck; reach from floor height to seven feet off the floor; reach three feet across a horizontal surface to access controls; lift equipment weighing up to forty pounds (40lbs.); climb ladders and steps in order to place, operate, and maintain electronic equipment.  Education, training and experience within the past five (5) years is required.
