The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM), Division of Student Affairs - Student Union Operations is currently seeking a Buildings/Grounds Supervisor.   UWM, a doctoral/research intensive university, is Wisconsin’s premier public urban university and offers a comprehensive liberal arts and professional education at the undergraduate and graduate level to its 30,000 students. Job Duties:   Operating under the general supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent and working either Wednesday through Sunday or Saturday through Wednesday, this position is responsible for the general maintenance of the UWM Student Union. The UWM Union encompasses 500,000 square feet and includes 20 meeting rooms hosting 14,000 meetings annually, 12 restaurants, and a daily building traffic of 27,500 visitors. The facility boasts an annual operating budget of over $1.1 million and a capital reserve budget of $1.2 million. Additionally the building contains 45 student organization office spaces, two (2) large multiple-use areas, a theater, the UWM Bookstore, a recreation center and an art gallery. In keeping with the dynamic atmosphere of the campus, the building master plan includes ongoing renovation and future construction projects.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Qualified applicants will have basic electrical and plumbing knowledge necessary to perform light repair of equipment, motors, and pumps. Highly qualified applicants will also possess knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); fire alarm systems; and elevator maintenance. This position requires a person who is organized, dependable, professional, and able to communicate effectively with vendors, staff, and other diverse groups of people. Applicants must have the ability to read and understand complex instructions as well as the ability to write clearly. The supervision of full-time maintenance mechanics is a vital component of this position. To that end, qualified candidates will possess skills in hiring, evaluating, training, coaching, and disciplining employees within a union-represented environment.
