Starting salary is $40,373 per year plus excellent benefits. Add-on pay is available for credits that are above what is needed for certification. This position is included in pay schedule and range 13-05. A six month probationary period will be required. Our teachers work twelve months per year.

This position is located at the Oakhill Correctional Institution in Oregon, Wisconsin (Dane County). This position works 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM Monday thru Friday.


The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society.

Job Duties:   This certificate program allows students to learn proper use of power tools; to install and replace electrical switches/fixtures; to paint and side structures; to build additions and outbuildings; and to install and repair floor and wall coverings. This positions works under the general supervision of the education director and arranges and takes part in the evaluation of students for programming, provides instruction in Vocational Building Services or transition classes, and assists with GED/HSED testing. Oakhill Correctional Institution is a minimum-security correctional institution for adult males.

Special Notes:   

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.  The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection.  Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. 


SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Certification or eligible for certification by the Wisconsin Technical College System in Building Services #443. 


Eligibility for WTCS certification includes: Bachelor's degree or equivalent* with education or training preparing a person for the occupational area being taught. Appropriate training may include vendor, manufacturer, in-service or other structured on-the-job training in the occupation.


*Educational equivalency: Occupational experience combined with education and training preparing a person for the occupation totaling 7 years or 14,000 hours shall be equivalent to a bachelor's degree. Each academic credit or equivalent credit shall be equal to 110 hours of occupational experience.


Work Titles Which Provide The Necessary Occupational Experience:  Journey Level Carpenter, Journey Level Plumber, Residential Builder, Finish Carpenter, Architectural Draftsman, Building Maintenance Engineer, Journey Level Electrician, Construction Millwright, Mason
