Starting annual salary is $35,291 with periodic increases over the first three years up to $45,990, plus an excellent benefits package, including health insurance, vacation, sick leave, deferred compensation and retirement benefits. These positions are in Pay Schedule/Range 15-24.
Join a team that works to protect, maintain, and enhance the beautiful and extensive waters of Wisconsin.The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources currently has a vacancy available in our Madison (DaneCounty) location but the employment register established by this recruitment will be used to fill future vacancies throughout the next 12 months.
Job Duties:
Job duties may include the following: Conduct field investigations and document reviews to determine potential impacts of proposed projects, plans and policies and work to assure all Department interests are met. Implement the discharge permit program to regulate point source industrial and municipal discharges. Draft permits for specific and general categorical point sources, review permit required submittals, and inspect facilities to determine compliance with permit conditions. Investigate and coordinate a wide variety of activities related to surface and groundwater activities. Protect lakes, streams and wetlands from harm due to improper physical alterations. Evaluate habitat, water quality and quantity, and water use to make decisions on whether to permit waterway or wetland alterations as well as technical assistance to local government officials who conduct similar activities. Conduct sanitary surveys at private and small public water supply systems. Assure that water samples necessary to protect public health are collected and analyzed in accordance with administrative rules. Follow-up on bacteriologically unsafe water samples to assure systems are safe.
Positions in these classifications typically require the following types of knowledge and skills. Knowledge of hydrologic and hydrogeologic principles of groundwater movement; biological, ecological and physical science principles; plant and animal identification; and environmental assessment methods. These positions also require the ability to read and interpret a variety of maps and engineering plans for civil works; water law and administrative codes; and land use planning and zoning documents; and statistical analysis of environmental data. These positions all require the ability to communicate effectively for technical and popular audiences.
