The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society.

This position is located at the Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution in Crawford County (Area 12).

Job Duties:   

Under the general direction of the Corrections Program Supervisor, this position is responsible for the lawful commitment and release of offenders through a thorough review of legal records and court sentences.  This position determines and reviews sentence structures, performs sentence computations; provides consultation on Record Office issues to offenders, staff and outside agencies and the public; appears in court to provide testimony on offender sentences and location.  This position functions as a lead worker and provides direction to other records office staff.

Special Notes:   


Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.  The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection.  Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations, and regulations pertaining to commitment and discharge of offenders; considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment; knowledge of computer applications; knowledge of interviewing techniques; knowledge of business English, filing, and math; ability to compile and review records to determine completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness of information; ability to communicate effectively and courteously both orally and in writing; ability to think and act quickly in emergencies.
