The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of State Patrol in the Bureau of Communications is seeking qualified applicants for our three (3) vacant Communications Technician Senior -  Project/Project positions. These are 4 year project positions and will end on 01/31/2014.  Vacancies are anticipated in Dane, Fond du Lac and Eau Claire Counties.  To find out about the benefits available to Project-Project employess - click here:  http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/about/docs/commtechsenior.pdf

Job Duties:   

Perform advanced technical services related to the provision of electronic and communication services for public safety agencies served by the Bureau of Communications.  Services are provided directly to the State Patrol and Department of Natural Resources.  Secondary support is provided to many other county and local public safety agencies. Perform highly technical work relating to complex design, development, modification, construction, system integration, configuration, installation, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of complex microprocessor and computer-based electronic and communications equipment. This position coordinates a portion of the statewide communications networks and coordinates with other bureau technicians to integrate the operation of the total communications networks. This position designs systems and interface equipment for the area of responsibility and assists in the design, project management and implementation of complex electronic and wireless communication networks.

Special Notes:   

Well-qualified applicants will have a two-year electronics degree or equivalent work experience.

Must be able to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis; work alone at night at remote locations; and possess a valid Wisconsin Drivers License with a good driving record which must comply with minimum requirements for use of a state vehicle.

Due to the nature of these positions, all applicants will be required to allow the Department to conduct a thorough background investigation including a criminal history check. Those individuals being considered for hire will be subject to fingerprinting. Any felony conviction will disqualify applicants.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Modern trouble-shooting techniques for electronic and communications equipment; diagnosing and isolating system technical problems; reading and interpreting highly complex schematic diagrams; use and application of diagnostic and test equipment; electronic and communications theory; frequency synthesized two-way mobile radio theory; semi-conductor theory and application including mosfet, microchip and integrated circuits; microprocessor theory and application; organizing and supervising project work; printed circuit design and construction techniques; direct current/alternating current theory; series/parallel circuits; and digital circuits.
