Starting salary will be $40,361 per year plus a full benefits package. Add on pay is available for credits that are above what is needed for certification. This position is included in pay schedule and range 13-05. A six month probationary period will be required. Our teachers work twelve months per year.

We are seeking a Teacher for the Electricity program at Green Bay Correctional Institution in Green Bay, WI (Brown County).


The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society.

Job Duties:   Under the general supervision of the Education Director, this instructor is responsible for the development of the Green Bay Correctional Institution (GBCI) Electricity Vocational Program and the instruction of the inmate-students enrolled in the program. Subject areas emphasized in the program include AC/DC circuitry, electrical safety, residential and commercial electrical code, residential and commercial wiring, and introductory aspects of renewable energy (solar).

Special Notes:   

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Certification or eligible for certification by the Wisconsin Technical College System in Electricity #413.


Applicants do not need to possess teacher certification at this time. Rather, they should have the work experience and/or education that will make them eligible to obtain certification after hire.


Eligibility for WTCS certification #413 includes: Bachelor's degree or equivalent* with education or training preparing a person for the occupational area being taught. Appropriate training may include vendor, manufacturer, in-service or other structured on-the-job training in the occupation.


*Educational equivalency: Occupational experience combined with education and training preparing a person for the occupation totaling 7 years or 14,000 hours shall be equivalent to a bachelor's degree. Each academic credit or equivalent credit shall be equal to 110 hours of occupational experience.


Work Titles Which Provide The Necessary Occupational Experience: Journey-Level Electrician, Master Electrician

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   


  • Knowledge of open entry, open exit, competency-based instructional methods and techniques.

  • Knowledge of instructional content and current technical requirements for Electricity Vocational Program.

  • Knowledge of written, verbal, and non-verbal methods of communication.

  • Knowledge of the use and repair of various types of electrical equipment and tools.

  • Considerable knowledge of standard practices employed in the fields of commercial and residential electricity. 

  • Skill in ordering and managing educational and shop materials.
