We have two current vacancies in Dodge County for Buildings and Grounds Supervisor.  The positions are located at Dodge Correctional Institution (Waupun) and Fox Lake Correctional Institution (Fox Lake).


The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society.

Job Duties:   Under the general supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent, this position assists in supervising and directing maintenance staff, provides emergency repair services, ensures safety and code compliance, establishes and maintains preventative maintenance programs, purchases maintenance supplies and services, performs record keeping and other administrative duties, supervises inmate workers and maintains security in work areas.

Special Notes:   Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   


  • Knowledge of methods, techniques and terminology used in the operation and maintenance of heating, cooling and refrigeration systems, electronic and mechanical equipment, grounds equipment, security systems, building structure components, plumbing, electrical, computerized and mechanical systems, vehicles and other specialized equipment and systems commonly used in building/institution complexes.

  • Knowledge of effective methods of planning, prioritizing, and organizing work to obtain balance of needed and desired accomplishments in all areas of maintenance and repair, new construction and remodeling.

  • Ability to produce and keep a variety of records; make concise reports and recommendations.

  • Knowledge of principles and techniques for effective supervision of staff.

  • Knowledge of codes and standards relating to: building standards, construction and maintenance; fire safety; plumbing and electricity; life safety; and elevator safety.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and procedures to prevent occupational injury in maintenance work and equipment operations.

  • Ability to read and understand operating manuals, technical drawings, and blueprints.

  • Knowledge of general landscaping procedures and grounds maintenance.

  • Knowledge and skill in the use of personal computers and software.

  • Basic knowledge of commercial/institutional digital, intelligent fire alarm systems, their testing and repair, and related fire protection codes.

  • Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
