UW Extension Media Supervisor-Advanced (WHA-TV Maintenance Supervisor)Job Announcement Code(s): 10-00313
The goal of this position is preventive and corrective maintenance of the entire electronic portion of the WHA-TV studio, remote, and DTV transmitter facilities. This includes designing plans to integrate new equipment into the existing production system. In addition this position requires supervision of engineering maintenance staff performing all types of maintenance on transmission and television production equipment. Job Duties:Supervise: Preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of all types of electronic equipment; maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures; supervise integration of new equipment into existing complex systems; assign, guide and train maintenance/engineering personnel in specific activities and determine proper priorities for the various maintenance related needs; coordinate and schedule maintenance activities with affected departments of WHA-TV, as appropriate; supervise and perform evaluations of engineering staff; seek out schooling and conferences to uphold staff's television engineering proficiency; as designated chief operator, oversee WHA TV transmitter operations for technical and legal compliance. Perform: repairs and corrective maintenance on all technical equipment used in the WHA-TV transmission and production facilities, including computer-based devices; install manufacturers' modifications and/or updates, both hardware and software; identify and supply necessary input and output signals, along with power requirements for new equipment; adjust signal timing, input and output levels, and perform any additional adjustments to insure specified performance; operate television equipment when scheduled; assist in planning and providing information for changes to current and/or new equipment and systems in the studio, remote truck and transmitter environments; assist management in determining equipment replacement needs; recommend new equipment purchases; resolve transmitter operational discrepancies in a timely manner, including UPS and generator; train operators in the operation, calibration and maintenance of the WHA TV transmitter and transmitter remote control equipment; design, construct or supervise the construction of specialized electronic equipment/devices to meet the specific needs of the WHA TV broadcast and production operation; modify existing equipment to extend service life or to enable effective operation within existing systems. A criminal history records check will be conducted prior to appointment.Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: satellite, microwave and fiber optic interconnection technologies and equipment; PC and Mac computer operating systems and Microsoft Office. Skill in: Remote and studio television equipment and systems maintenance and repair, including to the circuit board level and component level; maintenance and repair on high-power DTV television transmitter; remodeling and/or construction projects for transmitter, remote and studio facilities; broadcast television systems' software and hardware updates and revisions; recommending new technologies and developing specifications for vendor bidding. Ability to: supervise and provide guidance and oversight of TV engineering staff; operate state of the art television production equipment and perform required measurements; document and organize systems operating procedures and equipment maintenance records; create and maintain working relationships with strong interpersonal skills, including oral and written communciation skills. Must be able to obtain (within six months of employment) and maintain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL). Apply online!
