WisDOT is recruiting to fill Civil Engineer-Transportation positions within our Bureau of Structures (BOS), Design and Development Sections. These Structural Engineer positions will work at our Hill Farms Office Building in Madison (Dane County). The list of eligible candidates generated from this recruitment will only be used to fill Structures vacancies and may be used to fill other vacancies that occur within the next twelve months. For more information about DOT, visit our website at http://dot.wi.gov . Job Duties:The Structural Engineer position will be responsible for the routine design of DOT bridges. These include new bridges with vertical curves and skews, as well as the rehabilitation and repair of existing bridges. These various structures may be designed in steel or concrete. The Structural Engineer produces design sketches for both new bridges and the maintenance of existing structures. This person also answers questions from the Engineering Specialists and Technicians during plan preparation. The Structural Development Rating Engineer position is responsible for the routine ratings and load postings of DOT bridges. The ratings will be performed on new and existing bridges. This may include details, project correspondence, and meetings with regional bridge personal. This position assists on projects and performs activities involving civil and structural engineering analysis systems; bridge rating manual; structural research and projects; Finite Element Modeling (FEM) for bridges, and performance of structural engineering services which develop statewide policy and procedure, for transportation structures. Prior to any appointments for position(s) filled from this recruitment/announcement, candidates may be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check which may include fingerprinting. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: · Knowledge of structural design/analysis theories, indeterminate structural analysis methods, elastic and plastic design methods, load resistance-factor design. · Knowledge of Finite Element Modeling Systems and techniques. · Knowledge of structural steel design and welding principles. · Knowledge of reinforced concrete design. · Knowledge of pre-stressed concrete theory and design. · Knowledge of physics, statics and dynamics. · Knowledge of American Concrete Institute Design Code. · Knowledge of technical writing and specification writing. · Knowledge of computer hardware and software basics. · Knowledge of American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Specifications for Highway Bridges. · Knowledge of structural analysis with advanced study in the areas of concrete design, steel design, and pre-stressed concrete design. · Knowledge of Mechanics of Material as it applies to bridges and bridge construction. · Knowledge of advanced mathematics including calculus, geometry and trigonometry.
