The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society. The Department of Corrections (DOC); Office of the Secretary (OS); Victim Services and Programs; (VSP), central office 3099 E. Washington Ave, Madison, WI located on Madison’s east side with easy access and on-site parking. Job Duties:The Department is filling two positions: Victim Notification Specialist and Victim Services Advocate. Both positions are responsible for providing direct services to victims, victim family members and witnesses of any and all crimes prosecuted in the State of Wisconsin. Both positions provide information and advocacy regarding the criminal justice system, including sentencing structure [ truth in sentencing (TIS), presumptive mandatory release (PMR), 2009 ACT 28 sentence reforms], parole/early release processes, mandatory release, community supervision and maximum discharge. This position facilitates direct input into the parole process and other early release processes, facilitates and accompanies crime victims/survivors who choose to attend Earned Release Review Commission (ERRC) hearings. The Victim Services Advocate position is also responsible for conducting face-to-face meetings with victims/victim families, coordinating face-to-face meetings with Earned Release Review Commissioners and preparing, accompanying and debriefing victims who choose to attend ERRC hearings. This involves determining eligibility to attend under Wisconsin Statutes and coordinating attendance. The Victim Notification Specialist is also responsible for monitoring the VOICE for Victims automated system that provides information to crime victims on offender status changes, monitoring the enrollment process, and ensuring accurate and timely notification to crime victims and survivors. Both of these positions serve as liaison between victims/victim family members and other victim service providers and criminal justice professionals including community victim advocates, probation and parole agents, county victim/witness coordinators, District Attorneys, ERRC, Social Workers, Institution Security personnel, and others. Well Qualified Candidates:Will have training and/or experience in working with crime victims and their families in the criminal justice system, social work or counseling related to crime victim/survivors. Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S., without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Well developed interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad variety of individuals and groups; excellent written and oral communication skills; working understanding of the criminal justice system, sentencing structures, and the Earned Release Review process; knowledge of the criminal justice system, including an understanding of statutes, policies, procedures, rules and regulations; skill in personal computer use including the use of word processing and database software; report writing, record keeping and ability to pay attention to detail; knowledge of community resources for crime victims; knowledge of victims’ rights, working understanding of victimization and the personal impact of crime; ability to formulate and initiate operating plans and procedures and to direct their application; make oral presentations to individuals and groups; and maintain accurate program records, including data and financial reports.Send an Application for State Employment (OSER-DMRS-38), (indicate the Job Announcement Code), a current resume and a letter up to 2 pages.
