The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection employs over 700 permanent and limited term employees.  The Payroll and Benefits Section is housed within the Bureau of Human Resources and is responsible for all payroll and benefits related items for all staff.  This small unit works closely together to quickly and accurately process related transactions for a large agency staff.

Job Duties:   

·         Process deductions, prepayments, refunds, terminations, adjustments, and corrections for fringe benefits


·         Prepare and reconcile payroll and financial reports


·         Process the agency’s certification forms and Limited Term Employees


·         Set up new employees in the payroll system


·         Assist in the implementation of wage and benefit provisions of union agreements and the state compensation plan


·         Assist in handling confidential materials


·         Provide back-up support to the Supervisor and Payroll and Benefits Specialist as needed.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

Ideal candidates will have:


·         Effective and accurate data entry, data collection and report development skills


·         Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices


·         Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & Access


Familiarity with general payroll techniques or guidelines is highly desirable
