The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM), Auxiliary Services Department is currently seeking an IS Technical Services Senior. Job Duties:   Under the general supervision of the Director of Management Services, this position is responsible for managing the student resident network ‘ResNET’ in the residence halls at UW-Milwaukee. Duties include managing the systems used to regulate access to the campus network, monitoring network bandwidth usage, working with campus network managers to coordinate access to the network by residents, and providing direct support to campus residents with computer problems. Duties also include installing hardware and software on resident-owned computers and configuring them for operation on the campus network. This position is also responsible for the daily support of the administrative network in all University Housing properties.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Qualified candidates will be skilled in the installation and configuration of PC hardware, including but not limited to network cards, hard drives, CD-ROM drives, DVD drives, SCSI interfaces, switches and video interfaces. Qualified applicants must also be skilled in the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of Microsoft operating systems (e.g. Windows® 7, Vista® XP, 2000, and 2003) and applications (e.g. Office 2003 and 2007). Highly qualified candidates will have additional experience with Microsoft Windows Server® 2003 and 2008 as well as the Linux© operating system. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical as the incumbent will be required to assist, and train others to assist, customers that may be unfamiliar with new technology. Applicants must be able to use hand tools and ladders while working in confined spaces to inspect and install wiring and equipment in wiring closets.
