Salary:
This position is in a pay range 81-01 with a starting annual salary between $59,406 and $98,021 (based on an hourly rate of $28.451 to $46.945). A 24-month Career Executive trial period is required for those who do not yet have Career Executive status. For those who have Career Executive status, a 6-month permissive trial period may be required for candidates from other state agencies.

UW-Milwaukee is currently seeking to fill a vacancy for a full-time Assistant Controller position in the Department of Business and Financial Services in the Division of Finance and Administrative Affairs. Job Duties:   Under the general supervision of the Controller, the incumbent will assist in directing and managing the daily operations of the Accounting Services Unit providing accounting and related services to UW-Milwaukee schools, colleges and divisions. The unit provides services within the framework of a system of control adequate to maintain accountability to the various providers of financial resources to the institution. This position participates on the Controller’s management team whose duties include coordinating the activities of delegated accounts payable units; planning, supervising, and implementing improvements to data processing systems; and coordinating system developments with the efforts of other Business and Financial Services sub-departments and academic divisions and departments. Additional duties of this position include evaluating Accounting Services' operational responsiveness and improving the services of the department; implementing accounting-related policies and procedures; and reviewing policy and procedures proposed by UW-System, the State of Wisconsin, and various federal agencies to determine the appropriate response by UW-Milwaukee. This position directs subordinates within the Accounting Services department, including hiring, motivating, training, evaluating, and assigning workload levels to employees to maintain an appropriate service level.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Qualified candidates will have skill in organizing data and workflow, creative problem-solving, organizational program and policy development, and interpretation and implementation of complex procedures, rules, and regulations. The following abilities are critical to success in this position: the ability to organize and manage many diverse projects simultaneously; the ability to analyze, develop, implement, and maintain Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, specifically PeopleSoft; and the ability to create and maintain financial reports within PeopleSoft (nVision). In addition, this position requires knowledge of accounting principles, rules, and theory including internal control; knowledge of personnel practices, staff relations, employee goal setting, employee performance evaluation and discipline, and supervisory and leadership principles; knowledge of effective training procedures and programs; and knowledge of the principles and practices of total quality management and public administration. The selected incumbent will possess skill in effective long and short-range planning and assessment of operational need; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative officials, employees, and the general public; and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Highly-qualified candidates will have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or licensure as a Certified Public Accountant.
