Annual starting salary is between $52,736 and $87,017 depending on qualifications and experience, and includes a comprehensive State benefits package. A two-year Career Executive trial period will be required. Schedule and Range 81-02.

The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society.


A Center Superintendent has the overall responsibility for the operation and administration of the Correctional Center/Facility. The incumbent plans, organizes and directs all activities including business management, security, treatment, rehabilitation, and general services in a multi-phase community centered facility.  He/She will supervise staff and promote and maintain community liaison activities and will be required to perform a variety of tasks within the Center as needed, including managing emergency situations such as escapes and disturbances.


At this time we have a current vacancy at Gordon Correctional Center in Gordon (Douglas County)


The register created from this recruitment will be used to fill any future Center Superintendent vacancies Statewide for at least the next 6 months. Interested current Career Executives must also apply at this time to be placed on the consideration list.

Job Duties:   

  • assume overall responsibility for the operation and administration of a correctional center

  • develop, implement, and administer security program for all areas of the center

  • plan, organize, and direct all activities of the multi-phase, community centered, minimum security facility

  • responsible for security, treatment, recreation, rehabilitation, and general services

  • promote and maintain positive community/public relations and inmate off-grounds programs

  • interview, select, and supervise professional and non-professional center staff including evaluations, discipline, and grievances

  • develop and provide staff training as needed

  • manage all business activities

  • implement Affirmative Action/Civil Rights Compliance plans and programs within areas of responsibility and in compliance with federal and state civil rights laws

Special Notes:   

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.


Incumbent will be on-call on a 24 hour day basis and will perform on-call duties on weekends and holidays and during non-business hours as required.

  • community resources and partnership techniques

  • effective oral and written communication
