The starting pay is between $35,291 and $58,232 per year depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 07-04. A 6-month probationary period is required. This position is included in the Fiscal and Staff Services bargaining unit.

The Department of Corrections administers Wisconsin’s state prisons, community correctional centers, and juvenile corrections programs. It supervises the custody and discipline of all prisoners in order to protect the public and seeks to rehabilitate offenders and reintegrate them into society. The Department of Corrections (DOC); Division of Management Services (DMS); Bureau of Technology Management (BTM), central office 3099 E. Washington Ave, Madison, WI located on Madison’s east side with easy access and on-site parking.
Job Duties:
This position under close supervision analyzes, designs, and develops business applications for the Department of Corrections (DOC); maintains and supports existing applications for DOC; works with Department personnel to identify system requirements, plans, designs and develops computer applications; works in varied technical environment including Web-based technologies, Oracle, SQL Server, client-server, on-line and/or batch processing; analyzes user needs, prepares business requirement documents and specifications, designs, writes, tests, and moves application components into production according to established standards; works as a member of System Development and Support Teams; and solves problems and provides daily support to users of these systems.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. No contracts.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
Knowledge of windows operating systems; IBM compatible equipment and operating systems; systems development processes and techniques; MS SQL Server, Oracle or DB2 relational database management systems; graphical user interface (GUI) such as VisualBasic, HTML, etc.; Java, C++ or VB programming language; problem solving skills; verbal communication skills and writing techniques; and ability to work with the “customers” of BTM.
