The Department of Transportation, Division of State Patrol in the Bureau of Transportation Safety is currently recruiting for a Program and Policy Analyst – Advanced.  This position is located at the Hill Farms State Office Building - 4802 Sheboygan Avenue in Madison. 

Job Duties:   

Conduct policy and program research and analysis related to the Division of State Patrol and the Department of Transportation highway safety policies, planning, programming, and proposed or enacted legislation. Provide technical assistance and analytical support to Department personnel via data analysis, consultation on research techniques and provision of relevant information.  Provide liaison services between the Division and other divisions and state agencies, industry groups, professional organizations or the Legislature on Division programs and policies, and administrative rule proposals related to highway safety management issues, programs and data resources. 


Project assignments are often significantly difficult, and the person in this position must exercise considerable independent judgment in establishing work methods, performing project assignments, applying data processing techniques and documenting results. 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

Knowledge of:  public policy management techniques; time and resource management; program evaluation and systems analysis; highway safety-related statutes and administrative rules; the legislative process; federal and state highway safety grant programs; politics and tactics of advocacy groups; interpersonal and public relations skill; written communications; research and study techniques; group decision-making techniques; public presentation; sources of a wide variety of demographic, business, economic, and resource data; computer applications, statistical research design, and exploratory data analysis; data processing methods and capabilities (including hardware, software and personal computer technology); data retrieval; computer programming; and statistical techniques to process data.
