Salary:
The starting pay is $12.892 per hour (1-level, PR03-10); and $13.913 per hour (2-level, PR03-11). A six-month probationary period is required.

The employment registers established by this recruitment will be used to fill vacancies that may occur during the next six to twelve months at state institutions and universities.

Job Duties:   Assist or prepare food on a production basis; care for cooking equipment; direct, instruct, guide or work with kitchen helpers. Cook 2 may perform specialized functions in large operations.

Special Notes:   A criminal background check may be required prior to appointment.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Methods, materials and equipment used in large-scale cooking; sanitation and health precautions in food preparation and service; working knowledge of food values and nutrition; ability to guide and instruct others in food preparation; ability to prepare food for special menus and diets; ability to adapt recipes to large-scale preparation.

How To Apply:   

A multiple-choice exam will be administered on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. or at the Make-up Exam Center on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

Pre-registration is required.  To register on-line, select "Log in to Apply" or "Apply Now", you will either log in to your account or create a new account if you do not have one. Note:  Creating a job cart is not pre-registering to take the exam. The registration process will require you to do the following:



  • Verify your personal information including e-mail address for accuracy (select continue at the bottom of the page);

  • Select your job preferences (select continue at the bottom of the page); and

  • Indicate your preferences where you would take the exam (select save and continue to save your response then save and finalize to finalize the exam).
After you complete the on-line pre-registration process, you will receive a confirmation immediately via e-mail, if you provided an e-mail address.  If you do not provide an e-mail address, you will need to write down your Wisc.Jobs Applicant ID number and bring it with you to the exam center.  Note:  If you do not receive a confirmation notice, please contact the Employment Services Center at ESC@wisconsin.gov or (608) 266-1731 before the registration deadline date.  We are not responsible for undeliverable e-mails or incomplete registrations.

If you are unable to pre-register on-line, contact the pre-registration phone line at (608) 266-1536.  Please make sure you allow ample time to receive and return your application material by the deadline date.  (On-line registration is preferred).

Note:  The deadline for pre-registration is August 9, 2010.  If application material is not received or if you have not pre-registered by that date, you will not be able to test.


Retest:
  The retest waiting period for this exam is 6 months from the date of your last examination.  If you took this exam on or after March 13, 2010, you are not eligible to retest.

Reuse:  The reuse period for this exam is one year from the date of your last examination.  You may reuse your score, if you took this exam on or after August 8, 2009. If you took this exam on August 8, 2009, score reuse must be requested on or before August 8, 2010.  For more information on score reuse, please read "Exam Score Reuse". 

Note:  The Monday makeup test has the same date as the Saturday center for retest and reuse.
