The Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (DMHSAS) and Division of Long Term Care (DLTC).  The employment register created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time vacancies at Mendota Mental Health Institute, Winnebago Mental Health Institute, Central Wisconsin Center, Northern Wisconsin Center, and Southern Wisconsin Center.  Vacancies may or may not be available at the time of your application.  Working hours include a combination of rotating shifts of AM (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and PM shifts (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) with occasional night shifts (11:10 p.m. to 7:10 a.m.) Some weekends and holidays will be required.  Specific start and end times for each shift will vary by institution.  All applicants must be willing and available to cover all shifts and work overtime if needed.

Job Duties:   Resident Care Technicians provide care to developmentally disabled and/or mentally ill residents; provide personal hygiene care to residents including bathing, grooming, and toileting; help new residents adjust to their living area; observe and report behavioral, mental, and physical changes in residents; record and summarize information in daily logs, clinical records, etc.; assist seated or lying residents to a standing position by pulling and lifting; and work cooperatively with others to promote a positive living environment.

Special Notes:   Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret charts/diagrams, and policies/procedures; ability to make visual observations and report accurately; interpersonal relations skills.  IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) Employer-paid training will be provided to appointees who are not currently certified as Nursing Assistants. This training will be provided at the institution/center; 2) Applicants must have a TB test, which will be administered by medical personnel approved by the facility; and 3) Applicants will be required to pass a physical exam before starting.

Important Note:  “Applicants applying for vacancies with Northern Wisconsin Center (NWC) must have a current CNA certification.  No employer paid CNA training is available for NWC applicants.”

How To Apply:   A multiple-choice exam will be administered on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. or at the Make-up Exam Center on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

• Indicate your preferences where you would take the exam (select "Save and Continue" to save your response then select "Finalize" to finalize the exam).

After completing the on-line pre-registration process, you will receive a confirmation notice via e-mail, if you provided an e-mail address.   If you do not provide an e-mail address, you will need to write down your Wisc.Jobs Applicant ID number and bring it with you to the exam center.  Note:  If you do not receive a confirmation notice, please contact the Employment Services Center at ESC@wisconsin.gov or (608) 266-1731 before the registration deadline date.  We are not responsible for undeliverable e-mails or incomplete registrations.

If you are unable to pre-register on-line, call (608) 266-1536, please make sure you allow ample time to receive and return your application material by the deadline date. (On-line registration is preferred).

Note: The deadline for pre-registration is August 9, 2010.  If application material is not received or if you have not pre-registered by that date, you will not be able to test.

RETEST: The retest waiting period is 6 months from the date of your last exam administration.

REUSE: The reuse period for this exam is 6 months from the date of your last exam administration. For more information on score reuse, please read the section called "
EXAM SCORE REUSE". The Monday make-up center date is considered the same as the Saturday exam date for reuse and retest purposes.
