Salary:
Starting pay is $18.255 per hour plus excellent benefits. Current state employees pay will be based on the rules that apply to compensation upon transfer, reinstatement or voluntary demotion transactions. The pay schedule/pay range is 07-04. An 18-month probationary period is required. This classification is included in the Fiscal and Staff Services Bargaining Unit.

The employment register created from this recruitment will be used to staff full-time and part-time vacancies that occur within the next six months in the following areas throughout the state:  Appleton District, Eau Claire District, Madison District, Milwaukee District and Wausau District.

Job Duties:   Work in a central or field office collecting delinquent income, sales/use, and employer withholding taxes; assist and advise taxpayers in the preparation of current or delinquent tax returns and reports, and schedules.  (During the on-the-job and classroom training period, instruction is provided regarding the administration of Wisconsin income tax, sales/use tax, employer withholding and delinquent tax collection laws; the examination of taxpayer books, records and tax returns for accuracy; the collection of delinquent tax amounts; and the determination of tax liability.)  NOTE:  Revenue Field Agent positions will require travel.  Persons appointed to field positions must have a valid driver's license and access to a serviceable automobile or the ability to provide one's own transportation for work assignments upon appointment.

Special Notes:   A criminal background check and a tax non-filer check will be conducted on all finalists prior to an offer of hire.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Mathematical skills, general business practices, accounting, bookkeeping and commercial law concepts and practices, skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relations skills, customer service skills, and basic computer skills including standard office software programs for word processing and spreadsheet applications.  NOTE:  Well qualified candidates will have a two-or four-year degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Mathematics, or equivalent and/or professional experience in a field such as collections, business operation, investigation, customer service, law/code enforcement, or insurance adjustment.

How To Apply:   A multiple-choice exam will be administered on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. or at the Make-up Exam Center on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

If you are unable to pre-register on-line, contact the pre-registration phone line at (608) 266-1536, please make sure you allow ample time to receive and return your application material by the deadline date. (On-line registration is preferred).

Note: The deadline for pre-registration is Monday, August 9, 2010. If application material is not received in our office by this date or if you have not pre-registered, an exam booklet is not guaranteed.

There is no reuse for this exam; everyone must retest.
