Starting wage is $31,541 annually. This position is covered by the Wisconsin State Employees Union - Administrative Support Unit collective bargaining agreement; pay range 02-11. A six month permissive probationary period is required.

We are located in the Prairie Oak State Office Building situated on Madison’s southeast side and nestled in a beautifully wooded and scenic hilltop venue.  Our employees enjoy ample, low-cost parking at the facility.  We are only minutes away from the Beltline Highways, Interstates 90/94 and Highway 51 for quick access to local restaurants, retail and service locations.

Job Duties:   

This position is responsible for the issuance of food establishment and personal licenses under the Division’s Food Licensing Program; communicates with industry persons, field supervisors and inspectors, and department office staff on a regular basis.  The position monitors food establishment compliance with licensing requirements and establishes procedures for the licensing program.  The position assists with the analysis, development, and implementation of new programs, changes in current program activities, and procedures.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   


  • Effective written and oral communication skills; this includes knoweldge of basic principles of English and grammar.

  • Considerable knowledge of spreadsheets, work processing, and database programs (e.g., Access).

  • Working knowledge of licensing practices, including basic fiscal skills - specific division and state program knowledge to be obtained upon hire.

  • Ability to effectively work with multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Considerable knowledge of administrative practices and procedures necessary to plan, implement, and coordinate a variety of major programs.

  • Knowledge of and ability to process license information.

  • Basic knowledge of payment processing and/or audit functions.

  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people in an effective and efficient manner.
