The DPI is currently filling a Child Care Counselor 1 school year position at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD), 309 West Walworth Avenue, Delavan, Wisconsin. Anticipated hours of work for the current full-time vacancy will be Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Monday through Thursday from 2:15 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Shift subject to change due to the program needs.) The employment register established from this recruitment will be used to fill multiple full-time and part-time school year vacancies that occur at WSD during the next six months. These positions are primarily school year positions and include working evening hours and some weekend hours. For more information about WSD, please go to http://wsd.k12.wi.us. Provide instruction, guidance, supervision, and day-to-day care of residential students. Work with children to develop daily living and interpersonal skills, behavior management, study habits, leisure and recreation skills. Participate in orientations, in-services and staff meetings. Provide supervised transportation of students in state owned vehicles as required. Ensure the safety of the children and instruct them in performing activities in a safe manner. Sign language communication skills for communicating with the deaf and an American Sign Language Proficiency Interview rating level of 2 upon hire and 2+ upon completion of probation is required. Sign Language skills will be evaluated during the interview process. A valid driver's license is required upon appointment. A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective child care (parenting) skills/procedures; daily living skills including recreational/leisure activities, group living situations and behavior management techniques; effective oral and written communication skills; and effective interpersonal strategies including conflict resolution techniques.
