The DPI, Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) is currently seeking a full-time school year (88%) Psychological Services Assistant. This position typically works on Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 11 p.m. and on Monday thru Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This position is located at 309 W. Walworth Avenue, Delavan.

WSD operates a residential school for children ages three to twenty-one with deafness and/or hearing impairments. The school provides academic and career education on site. The school also offers instructional and technical assistance, teaching materials and evaluations of pupils to local school districts and other agencies.

This announcement was posted on August 14, 2013 to reflect a new pay rate and reannounced on December 6, 2013, April 26, 2014, and August 12, 2014. This position was also announced in August and December 2012 and April 2013.

Job Duties:   
The position of Psychological Services Assistant reports to the Dean of Students and is responsible for the provision of direct and indirect mental health and behavioral services for Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) students in the residential setting. Under the leadership of and in collaboration with the School Psychologist, this position helps to coordinate campus-wide mental health and behavioral programs. Responsibilities include providing direct behavioral services for student’s guidance, training, and assistance to staff, and planning and implementation of programs designed to meet the behavioral needs of WSD students.

Special Notes:   

  • An American Sign Language Proficiency Index (ASLPI) rating of 2+ upon hire and a 3 by the end of the probationary period is required.

  • A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire.
  • Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   
    Knowledge of appropriate diagnostic tests and assessments for use with emotional/behavioral disordered (EBD) students; interpretation of above tests with consideration for the unique needs of the deaf and hard of hearing; behavioral patterns and functional development milestones; methods of data collection and assessment of behavioral date; report writing; initiating/adapting behavioral programs for EBD students; evaluating/adjusting established behavioral programming; individual/group counseling techniques; various communication strategies and systems; current techniques, strategies, and approaches on social/emotional behavioral assessments and programming.
