The Department of Public Instruction, the Division of Finance and Management is currently seeking an Assistant Director for the School Financial Services Team. The position is located at 125 South Webster Street, Madison.

Job Duties:   

This position reports to the director of the school financial services team and is responsible for assisting the director provide leadership to and oversee the general duties and outreach activities of the school financial resources team.   The school financial services team administers state general and categorical school aids programs totaling over $5 billion annually; Wisconsin Uniform Financial Accounting Requirements (WUFAR), the state’s school district accounting system; the collection, use and reporting of statewide school district financial data; and school district revenue limits.  The team provides consultation to school districts on financial and business practices; provides information and policy advice to the state superintendent, legislature, and interest groups; and completes statewide school expenditure and revenue reports for the federal government. The director and assistant director work as a leadership/management team.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

Knowledge of Wisconsin school finance laws; school district administration and business management practices; budget development and implementation at local, state, and federal levels; Wisconsin school district laws; state and federal school aids programs; school district long term borrowing authority; the principles and techniques of supervision; the state prescribed accounting system for Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs) and Children with Disabilities Education Board's (CDEBs); techniques for collecting, analyzing and evaluating technical information relating to effectiveness of methods, processes and service delivery; the principles and techniques of effective communication, including public speaking, writing, coaching, coordination and education; strategic planning and goal setting; current technology related strategies as they relate to data collection, data warehousing and computer applications for calculating state aid; and organizational behavior principles relating to human motivation, evaluation, group dynamics, communication, leadership, decision making and managing change and conflict. Skill in managing multiple, highly-complex projects.
