These positions are located at the Department of Health Services (DHS); Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS); Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) and Central Wisconsin Center (CWC). MMHI and CWC are conveniently located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility.

The first review date of applications is July 25, 2017. Applications will be reviewed every two weeks after this date.

Current shifts available include AM and PM shifts. AM shifts work from 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM and PM shifts work from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

Note: The register established as a result from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies as they occur over the next six months or longer.

Position Summary:   Under limited supervision of the Custodial Services Program Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks at Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI). Duties include, but are not limited to: operating automatic cleaning equipment such as automatic scrubbers, sweepers, and wall washers, wet/dry vacuums, and carpet cleaning equipment; mopping, stripping and sealing of floors; cleaning of toilets, showers and furniture; shoveling snow; and replacing light bulbs.

Special Notes:   Due to the nature of these positions, all applicants will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.


This position requires the following:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, and able to climb, bend, reach, and twist.

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, and able to accept work assignment changes as needed.

  • Ability to follow proper safety standards when using chemical cleaning agents.

  • Ability to use cleaning tools and appropriate sanitizing procedures.

Well-qualified candidate will have:

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and using problem solving processes.
