The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is currently recruiting to fill multiple Food Service Assistant (FSA) vacancies at Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) and Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI).

CWC is a nationally recognized, long-term care organization which supports individuals with intellectual disabilities. MMHI specializes in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. Both facilities are located on the North side of Madison. Employees enjoy several state benefits including a state retirement plan and excellent health insurance. CWC also has a 24/7 fitness center, free parking, and is on the bus route.

Position Summary:   The Food Service Assistant will portion food items to individual trays, snack bags and bag lunches based on diet as printed. The FSA transports food and supplies to and from the department, cleans food production equipment, dishes and utensils, stores food and supplies and performs all custodial, sanitation and related tasks in the Food Service Department. The FSA also assists with basic food preparation for Central Bistro and residents assists customers with sales in the Central Bistro.

Special Notes:   Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

Qualifications:   

Minimally qualified candidates will have the ability to:
-  Lift 50lbs and work from standing, sitting, kneeling or stopping positions.
-  Stand and walk for extended periods of time on hard tile floors.
-  Climb ladders.
-  Communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
-  Follow oral and written instructions.
-  Work weekends, holidays, early mornings, and evening hours and accept overtime shifts as necessary.
-  Work in hot and humid conditions with temperatures occasionally reaching 110 degrees or higher.

In addition, well-qualified candidates will have:
-  Previous food service or production experience.
-  Knowledge of and ability to practice and carry out good safety and sanitation standards and precautions.
-  An ability to work cooperatively with others and use problem solving processes and resolve conflict productively.
