Salary:
Starting pay: $14.18/hour (PR 6-11), plus additional compensation earned for weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime, as well as an excellent benefits package. A twelve-month probationary period is required. An add-on of $0.80/hour shall be paid to supplement the base pay of employees in this position with a current and up-to-date CNA certification.

The Wisconsin Veterans Home (WVH) at King is a 721-bed skilled nursing facility set on 320 tree-lined acres located off Hwy 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton. This is a long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. We are currently seeking part-time and full-time Nursing Assistants for all shift possibilities.

Position Summary:   

This is objective level certified nursing assistant (CNA) work with responsibility for providing direct and indirect nursing care, while following individual programs, for up to 60 geriatric, disabled and/or cognitively impaired clients at the 700 plus bed Wisconsin Veterans Home. Nursing care is provided in accordance with standards set down by the American Nurses Association, gerontological nursing standards, federal, state, VA regulations; the mission and philosophy and policies and procedures of the Wisconsin Veterans Home and Department of Veterans Affairs. Responsibilities include: providing nursing care that follows a written care plan to help meet the therapeutic, preventative, restorative, spiritual, psychosocial, cognitive, and rehabilitative needs of the members. This includes some cognitive techniques to help maintain the demented member at the highest functional level. This position works as an integral part of the Health Care Team under the limited supervision of a Nursing Supervisor, under the direction of licensed nursing staff.

Qualifications:   

A minimally-qualified candidate must be 18 years of age on or before the effective date of the appointment and have the following:

  • A current State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant certification and eligibility to work in a federally-certified nursing home as a Certified Nursing Assistant
  • The ability to work in the conditions of position (i.e., provide patients with assistance in mobility efforts, perform light housekeeping, maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment, wear protective clothing, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, stand, sit, kneel, squat, and stand and/or walk up to 75% of an 8-hour day)
  • The ability to work varying hours and/or overtime shifts as required
  • Experience or education in providing Basic Nursing Care (i.e., daily nursing cares; follow goals and approaches; obtain temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, output and specimen for lab analysis; infection control practices; observe and report of significant condition changes)
  • Interpersonal Skills (i.e., establish and maintain relationships, assist and encourage member participation, work as part of a team)
  • Experience with Recordkeeping (i.e., patient charting, information sharing, recording facts and observations)

A well-qualified candidate will have the following:

  • Experience providing Advanced Nursing Care (i.e., follow plans of care and wellness/restorative plans, obtain intake, administer treatments, assist nurse in care of more critically ill members)
  • Experience with Equipment Maintenance and Inventory (i.e., stock linens and supplies, care for and clean equipment, take inventory)
  • Experience using Computers (i.e., electronic patient records, computerized records)
  • Experience performing Safety and Security Functions (i.e., recognize emergency situations, follow emergency protocols, complete safety and/or security checks, adhere to safety principles).
  • Experience working in a Relevant Setting (i.e., geriatric clientele, long-term care)
