Salary:
Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. The starting salary is between $19.30 - $23.36 per hour depending on experience, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 03/15. A 12 month probationary period is required.
Special Qualifications:
This position requires possession of the Department of Safety and Professional Services Refrigerant Certificate and EPA Universal Technician Certification for Refrigerant within the first 6 months of hire.

The Department of Health Services (DHS) is currently recruiting to a HVAC/Refrigeration Specialist position at Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) in Oshkosh, WI. Come see why DHS is a great place to work!

The position is on first shift and works Monday - Friday with occasional nights and weekends.

Position Summary:   

Under the general Supervisor of the Buildings/Grounds Supervisor, this position is responsible for the operations of mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems for Winnebago Mental Health Institute and Wisconsin Resource Center.  Responsibilities include: diagnosing building mechanical problems an insuring satisfactory operations of building systems; identifying, correcting reporting and communication building operational and maintenance needs; performing repairs on equipment; performing scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance actions on equipment; measures airflows and balancing.  Incumbent operates with significant independence and will act as a lead person overseeing the work of helpers, LTEs, and contractors.

Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

Individuals must be able to perform work in various positions such as overhead, standing on ladders and scaffolding, or while bending, kneeling, crawling, twisting or lying flat. Additionally, individuals may have to work in cold or humid conditions and confined spaces.

Qualifications:   

Minimally qualified candidates must have:

  • An EPA Refrigerant Handling/Recovery Certification or be eligible for certification within 12 months of hire.

    A well-qualified candidate will have:


  • Experience working with and knowledge of HVAC systems.

  • Ability to maintain safety at all time on the job.

  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
