The starting salary is between $68,536 and $94,744 annually, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 11/01. A twelve month probationary period is required.

Candidate must be certified as an Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber by the State of Wisconsin or the ability to obtain certification prior to appointment. Candidate must possess DEA number.

Position Summary:   Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers (APNP) are responsible for the comprehensive care for adult populations.  They will need to demonstrate a high degree of clinical expertise in providing preventative and primary care in an institutional setting.   The practitioner educates patients to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health, and intervene in acute and chronic illness. This practitioner will function independently in managing the direct and indirect care of individuals, consulting medical staff (psychiatrists, primary care physicians, and nursing) and staff from other disciplines; both on other WRC units, at the Department of Corrections, and in community agencies, regarding planning and evaluating care for patients with multiple general medical and psychiatric problems. They will participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of care and education programs and protocols used by the health care staff to meet the needs of individuals who exhibit health problems across the continuum from prevention to complex general medical and/or psychiatric conditions.

Qualifications:   

This position requires:

  • Well qualified candidates will have:

  • Knowledge and ability to perform physical assessments of geriatric patients. 

  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and treatment including the use of psychotropic medications.   

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
